
We plot for four days to understand what kinds of videos do people like to watch. Let’s plot the distribution of each category of videos on each day. There are 32 categories of videos on Youtube. The category_id column consists of a number that maps to a category of Youtube videos. For this we are going to use the category_id column to help us understand. Okay, enough of describing the data, let’s move on to the analysis!įirst, let’s try and understand what types of videos do people like to watch in Germany. Some of the headers in the file include trending_date, title, channel_title, likes, dislikes, comment_count and other such features describing a video. It was made available in the form of a CSV file.

It has data collected for / up to 200 trending videos on each day. The data I analysed was collected over a period of 19 days from 14 November 2017 to 2 December 2017. I had downloaded the data a few days ago, so I may not have analysed the latest version of the dataset. The data is collected from the Youtube API and is updated periodically. The dataset I analysed was collected from trending videos on Youtube Germany. Since Youtube is present in many countries, it curates the trending section according to the traffic from each country. The trending tab allows you to see videos that are getting viral. Youtube started testing their trending feature around late 2015.


Now unless you’ve lived all your life under a rock, you know what Youtube is. I was on Kaggle, going through some datasets, when I came across this very interesting dataset that was collecting trending Youtube video statistics. How did Thai and Tamil videos find their way into trending videos on Youtube Germany? We’ll find that soon, but before we get to that part, let’s start from the beginning.
